Q: What is the average interval between songs?
A: This varies because the musicians may only need about 5 - 8 seconds to turn pages, but the dancers may need to return a borrowed partner. At certain clubs they want 15 - 20 seconds, because they may be far away from the table, and must return their borrowed partner, and since many members are older, they walk slowly. However, 15 - 20 seconds is far too long at other clubs, and any smaller dance.
Q: How many songs are in your band's repertoire?
A: We actually have at least three categories of songs. They are:
1) Songs in the big music books, with proper horn charts, approx 400..
2) Songs that have no charts, maybe a word chart, but nothing else. E. G. Last Date, New Orleans Boogie, Kansas City, Blue Suede Shoes, Jailhouse Rock, Memphis, Tutti Fruitti, Can't Help Myself, Louie Louie, Wooly Bully, My Girl, In The Midnight Hour, and others.
3) Solo songs that I can play completely by ear, no charts, and take any ad libs necessary.
E. G. Love Story, Star Spangled Banner, America The Beautiful, God Bless America, Dixie, a few others, and some Christmas songs.
